As you know, our approach to acquiring French emphasizes understanding the language in context rather than focusing solely on memorization and grammar rules.
When you understand French with ease, you start to think in French naturally and then you speak French freely.
A few weeks ago, Richie asked in the Community Chat:
How should I be moving through each lesson? Should I be remembering the words before I move on? Or, be at least be able to fully comprehend the gist of what is happening?
Do not worry about remembering the words. When you understand, your brain subconsciously remembers the new words.
How to understand French easily?
Here is one simple tip: focus on understanding the gist of what is being said. It is key.
- Focus on recognizing keywords and familiar phrases.
- Try to understand the overall context of the conversation or text. Ignore trying to understand every word.
- listen for the main ideas and themes.
- Pay attention to non-verbal cues, such as tone of voice and gestures, which can provide valuable context clues.
Over time, as you become more familiar with French, your ability to comprehend complicated and faster speech or text will improve.
