To our circle of French Story Listeners,
What a joy it was to finish chapter 1 of Barry’s new book together!
It’s such a pleasure watching this story come alive through all of your voices.
By the end of the chapter, Bruno has chosen his path — magic over love — and is preparing to spend his summer in Brittany training with his aunt, even as thoughts of Mia linger in the back of his mind.

Chapter 2, “Une autre annĂ©e scolaire se termine,” picks up as the school year winds down. Bruno successfully avoids Mia while focusing on his exams, and we learn he’ll be spending the summer helping his aunt with a “job” in Iffendic.
Why join the conversation
There’s something a book club offers that reading alone simply can’t.
When you talk through a chapter together, wondering aloud what a character might do next, catching a turn of phrase you hadn’t noticed, hearing how someone else understood a scene differently than you did, the story settles into you in a completely different way.
It becomes shared.
And in French, that shared conversation is pure gold: real listening, real speaking, real thinking, all wrapped around something you already care about.
That’s language learning at its most natural.
Come as you are, camera on or off, we’d love to have you there.
With warmth,
Alice & Ben đź’•
P.S. A gentle reminder to register for our weekend in Pau this November — only 4 spots available! Pau is a lovely town in southwest France, just about 2 hours from Toulouse or Bordeaux, nestled at the foot of the Pyrénées. 👉 https://www.aliceayel.com/live-a-weekend-entirely-in-french/
