Dear French Story Listeners,
What if the most powerful moment for learning French wasn’t at your desk with a textbook, but in those quiet minutes just before you close your eyes?
It sounds almost too good to be true.
But it isn’t.
Your brain doesn’t switch off at night.
While you rest, it is busy sorting, weaving, and gently installing everything you gave it during the day.
Think of it like a diligent housekeeper, quietly tidying while you sleep.
And if you offer it a beautiful French story before bed? It does something quite remarkable with it.
This week’s free YouTube video is about a simple, unhurried evening ritual that works with your sleeping brain rather than against it.

I share the science behind sleep and memory, including why this approach works especially beautifully after 50.
I also share why a story before bed is more powerful than any vocabulary list you could memorise.
Try this gentle routine
🌙 Ten minutes before bed — listen to a French story. No grammar, no pressure, no flashcards.
Just let the sounds and the story wash over you.
☀️ Five minutes in the morning — narrate what you remember. In your mother tongue, in French, in a mix of both.
Whatever comes naturally.
That’s it. Your sleeping mind does the heavy lifting in between.
What the research shows, and what I’ve seen again and again with learners over 50, is that this kind of relaxed, story-led listening before sleep is far more effective for language absorption than drilling vocabulary or grammar rules.
Try the routine just once this week.
Notice what surfaces in the morning.
You may surprise yourself.
Le soir (the evening) and le matin (the morning) — two quiet bookends, and French growing gently in between.
