To our circle of French Story Listeners,
This week, Karel, one of our dearest community members, shared something on Telegram that made me smile from the inside out.
Early one morning, he received an urgent call from a close friend. His friend’s son, an agronomy student on internship in France, had been rushed to hospital, and left behind a group of five French farmers arriving that very day to visit the family farm in Friesland. Karel stepped in. He welcomed the group, introduced himself honestly, and guided them through the day, farm tour, conversation, and all, ending around a beautiful dinner together.
His reflection afterwards:
“With the school French I learned more than seventy-five years ago, I wouldn’t have managed it. Alice’s lessons made all the difference.”
This is what we’re here for.
Not perfection. Not performance. Real moments, real connection.
French doing what it was always meant to do.
